Warm Tips for Choosing Daybed Quilts
With its standard size single mattress, a daybed is a functional and versatile piece of furniture, but with the right daybed quilts it also becomes beautiful and highly desirable.
True daybed quilts are specialist items. They’re shaped and sewn in a particular way, with slits, so as to fit snugly around the frame and accommodate the unusual size and shape.
A daybed’s neither wholly a bed nor wholly a sofa, but a very useful hybrid of the two. Whilst the size and shape may be the same as a normal single, or twin bed, the back and sides of the framework make it quite different. Because of the back frame which runs along one side of the bed, and the side frames which form the sofa-style arms, normal quilts, though they’ll fit on the bed and you can tuck the back and sides in, won’t sit as neatly as bespoke daybed quilts.
Having said that, there is an enormous range of daybed quilts to choose from which are enough to totally spoil you for choice. Some quilt sets will set you back hundreds of dollars but there is absolutely no need to pay that kind of money. Wonderful patchwork and floral daybed quilts and sets can be found for tens of dollars, not hundreds, if you shop shrewdly.
Depending on the style of your bed you can choose from elegant self-colored cotton daybed quilts which look richly enticing when piled with pillows and cushions. They won’t look out of place in either a spare bedroom in pale colors, or the den in darker more practical colors. There are fabulous-looking irregular-shaped patchworks in mouth watering pastel shades of peaches, yellows and blues that look especially good on white-framed daybeds.
Daybed quilts can transform the appearance of the furniture, giving a fresh new look to a bed that may be a little old and tired. Go for vibrant, zesty colors in bright oranges and whites, current-red checks or stripes, or spots and swirls for that contemporary look, or tone it down with soft creams and browns, rich golds and subdued blues. Embroidered daybed quilts provide a touch of luxury and look far more expensive than they are.
Some daybed quilts are structured and tailored to give an upholstered look to the furniture. They may come complete with a foam bolster for back support rather than pillow shams, which enhances the sofa appearance. The skirt reaches the floor to hide a trundle bed, storage space or drawers beneath.
This practical and hard-wearing solution is especially useful if the daybed is used mostly for sitting, rather than sleeping. The fitted quilt doesn’t move or ruttle and with fewer tucks and frills than more decorative daybed quilts it also has a more masculine appeal.
